Create: Factory Controller

Redstone Link

Redstone links enable remote transmission and reception of redstone signals, as described in their in-game ponder. When placed in factory controllers, they may be connected with other components with redstone capabilities, allowing them to interoperate with contraptions outside the factory controller.

Operating Principle

A redstone link has 2 modes of operation:

Send
Sends the powered state of its incoming redstone connections to other redstone links on the same channel.
Receive
Receives from other redstone links on the same channel. If any of them is powered, it powers its outgoing redstone connections.

Redstone links are distinguished by channels, which consist of 2 item types. Each channel carries a redstone signal independently of the others. Examples of distinct channels are:

  • (Oak Plank, Cobblestone)
  • (Oak Plank, Air)
  • (Air, Oak Plank)
  • (Air, Air)

Configuration

After placing a redstone link on the virtual board, clicking the component opens its configuration screen.

❶ ❷ Channel
Place an item, or drag a ghost item from JEI, to set the channel of the redstone link.
❸ Relocate button
Click to move the location of this redstone link on the virtual board.
❹ Add connection button
Click to connect to other components via redstone. Directions of connections are decided automatically. Send-mode links may only have incoming connections, receive-mode links may only have outgoing connections.
❺ Mode switch
Click to switch between send btn send mode and receive btn receive mode modes.
❻ Confirm button
Click to confirm settings and close the screen.

Signal Strength

Inside factory controllers, redstone connections do not carry strength information of redstone signals. Instead, connect to redstone links via number connections to send and receive signal strengths, represented as integers between 0-15.

When connected as the sink of number connections, a redstone link clamps the number between 0-15 and rounds down, before sending the signal strength. The largest number is selected among multiple inputs, and a powered redstone connection is considered to have a strength of 15.

A client setting can be turned on to display the signal strengths on the labels of redstone links.
